RESOLUTE AND SOMISY MINING SYAMA MINE

Experiencing problems with their 1.7km x 30m wide airstrip at the Syama Mine in Mali, Resolute Mining
contacted Soil Solutions to provide a solution for their existing problems and an upgrade to the surface.
Problems they were incurring included slippery surface conditions, the loss of ne material and the formation of
potholes and undulations in the surface. The airstrip surface was prepared and then sealed using EBS Soil
Stabilizer. The EBS Surface Seal provides a sealed water resistant surface protected from erosion, loss of nes,
the formation of any undulations in the surface and most importantly eliminates dust and allows for increased
safety and pilot visibility. The upgraded surface allows for improved aircraft acceleration and enhanced skid
resistance providing a hard all–weather airstrip, which will require signicantly less maintenance and thereby
allows for a signicant reduction in operational costs as well as water use.

BG BOLIVIA LA VERTIENTE AIRSTRIP

Soil Solutions was contacted by BG Bolivia to provide a method for dust prevention and improving the surface
of the La Vertiente runway where the existing problems included loose gravel, the loss of ne material, low
visibility, dusty conditions and a slippery surface when wet. The scope of work consisted of contouring and
crowning of the surface to ensure for proper drainage using a grader and the removal of all loose debris,
aggregate, soil and rocks from the surface, compacting to a smooth nish then sealing the surface with EBS Soil
Stabilizer. The application of the EBS Surface Seal seals and protects the surface from erosion; loss of nes,
cracking, pothole formation and most importantly eliminates dust allowing for increased safety and pilot
visibility, signicant reduction in runway and aircraft maintenance, increased skid resistance and allows for use
year round despite the extreme weather conditions.
