Soil Solutions^® Expands its List of Gravel Airstrip and Runway Projects Internationally

Soil Solutions® continues to provide solutions for airstrips and runways world wide, after a recent successful EBS Gravel Airstrip Surface Seal test demonstration conducted in March 2011, Soil Solutions® was awarded the Upgrade and Surface Seal of the African Barrick Gold Kahama Gravel Airstrip in Kahama, Tanzania.   This project was completed  during September 2011.  This was then followed by an award to provide a Surface Seal on a second airstrip at the  African Barrick Gold Tulawaka Mine, a 2km long gravel airstrip which required preparation and an EBS Surface Seal.

Construction and Surface Seal for Gravel Airstrip Dust Control

Soil Solutions^® provided an innovative approach to several challenges related to the construction of the Kalahari Plains Airstrip in Northern Botswana, as the isolated location and environmental sensitivity of the area required specialized equipment and the environmentally compliant EBS™ Soil Stabilizer.  The Botswana Government employs strict environmental standards and specified the use of EBS™ for the construction and sealing of the Gravel Airstrip as this allowed for reduced environmental impact on this sensitive area of the Kalahari Plains.   Kalahari Airstrip Project

Soil Solutions^® also provided on site assistance for the upgrade of the Conforzi Plantation Airstrip on a Tea Plantation in Malawi, this project entailed the re-shaping, creation of drainage and a surface seal of the Gravel Airstrip.

Recently Soil Solutions^® just completed a large test area section at the Cape Town International Airport, in South Africa for the stabilization of the runway shoulders of one of the main runways.

Gravel Airstrip Dust Control

Dust Control on an Airstrip and or Runway is extremely important in order to maintain visibility and aircraft safety.  Use of EBS™ in the construction or as a Surface Seal on a gravel runway will ensure a dust free surface. Additional treatment of the non-traffic side and perimeter of the runway will also improve visibility and significantly reduce brown out from blowing sand or dust.  This simple treatment is highly effective and will also reduce the damage and required maintenance on the aircraft, as it will reduce the dust blown particles which clog the engines and make Foreign Object Debris (FOD) highly visible.
