Intelligent Road Solutions™
Introduction of Dynamic Compaction for Increased Strength in Layer Works

In-situ deep Dynamic Compaction is not a new technology; deep compaction has been incorporated into road, rail and structural work for centuries. However as our appetite for research and our technology advances so does our ingenuity and ability to design and construct machines that are able to accomplish faster rates of performance at lower costs. Some of the largest challenges in civil earthworks today is the availability and cost of materials, budgetary constraints and completion schedules.  Achieving the required density for construction can now be achieve with significantly reduced earth works and cut to fill efforts, thereby reducing cost and time requirements.

In addition, the locations of suitable borrow pit material, the related excavation loading, hauling and placement of material all add up to increased construction costs.

By incorporating the use of Dynamic Compaction machines into the construction of roads, rails and port facilities allows for a substantial decrease in the cost of the traditional cut to fill layers and can render a savings up to 60% or more of the cost of construction as well as the cost of crushing and screening of selected materials. This is a Ground Improvement Solution worth implementing.

The utilization of Dynamic Impact Compaction
in a road or rail bed significantly increases the strength of the wearing course and base layers of conventional roads, gravel roads and mine haul roads in addition to airport runways and railroad layer works in a shorter period of time.

Continuous Impact Response

Traditionally the depth of influence of standard steel drum, sheep’s foot or grid rollers have a depth of influence in the region of 50 to 200 mm’s, therefore limiting the maximum amount of material that can be processed in a given period of time. The incorporation of Dynamic Compaction delivers a high-energy impact force of up to 25 kJ in pressure which is vertically placed on the surface of the in situ soil with a depth of influence of up to 2 m or more while improving the sub-grade material by shearing the particles and increasing soil density which will prevent ingress of water which is one of the primary causes of sub grade settlement.

Dynamic Compaction improves gravel wearing course roads, remediates existing asphalt roads and improve challenging soils such as sandy or cotton soils of high clay content which would otherwise have to be excavated and removed at a substantial cost. With this technology we can now guarantee longer-lasting and better performance of the sub-grade and base layers as well as ensure longer life of asphalt surfacing on major highways.
